Hi Patt, My 86 year old father and sister were stunned at the beauty and scenery. My dad said he never imagined that it would be so beautiful. There is nothing like the view overlooking the beach from the house or deck. My dad spent hours taking pictures. My wife and I have vacationed in quite a few places around this Country but no place has matched the vacation in your home. Part of the charm is that there are no crowds like you get in popular vacation spots. Even on the amazing redwood trails there are few people. The busy crowded Disney world and busy touristy spots don't do it for me.

No doubt Jan still had plenty to do but we do take care of things and everybody takes their shoes off when entering the house just like here at home. I have found that the best part of the Crescent City vacations is the pictures and memories .At night to fall asleep sometimes I go in my mind to the sofa in the living room and see the faint light from the lighthouse that enters the room. The peace makes me sleepy.
Thank you for sharing the home and the great memories. We hope to come back and if Annie is good maybe I will take her next time. Tom, Florida

Another year enjoyed. This time we were able to spend a week which allowed us to do so much more. We caught a 30 lb salmon in Brookings, visited the lighthouse & enjoyed the beach. We enjoyed listening to the ocean from any seat in the house. We relaxed from a stressful work environment at home. Thanks for sharing your wonderful house with us.

We're loving the area once again. The Redwoods and Coast combination is simply irresistible! Your view to our little ocean world is equally enchanting. We've had spectacular visits from your seal and osprey population — always special. I thought my home state of Montana was awesome but am starting to love this area just as much. Thanks so for sharing this special place! Come on up to Seattle, soon!

We had a wonderful visit. The view is spectacular and the house makes you feel at home. We came to catch Salmon but they weren't here yet. The fishing for rockfish was spectacular. We caught our limit both days out. Thank you for sharing your home with us.

We vacation to the coast annually, picking a new location each time. We agree this house has had the best view so far. We particularly enjoyed swimming at Myrtle Beach, a walk in Stout Grove and looking at the beautiful photos in this home. Thanks for sharing with us.

Another wonderful week! We love it and the weather was HOT! We all go home in various shades of red and brown. Booked for next year and it can't happen too soon. Hope you enjoy the replica for the light House that the Oregon family donated to the house. Ocean World was terrific for young and old. Don't miss it. Thanks, Jan! The house looked great!

6th Annual Steelhead Smith River fishing trip lead us to the house where we could sit around the open fire and tell tall stories from the day?s events. The house was a great way to break bread together and feast on lovely meals cooked by our master chefs R and B of San Francisco. No more Hiouchi Hotels and caf? meals for this group!

(There follows tales of the two day?s trips down the Smith with the five guests split between two guide boats; yes they caught Steelhead!) Had a great time and we?ll be back!

Thanks, Brad D., San Francisco

Your house is absolutely beautiful. Bobby and I enjoyed watching and listening to the waves. We visited the Lighthouse the first day. We also tasted some great crab at the crab races (a Chamber of Commerce event). We saw both sun and rain; both made us appreciate the charm of loving on the coast.

I also wanted to say thank you for sharing your pictures with us. We enjoyed reading who and what each picture was about and realizing that a lot of them were memories from this area.

So, once again, thank you for a cozy place to stay on a wonderful Valentine?s Day Weekend!

It is a privilege again to spend several days right after Christmas in this special house that floats at the edge of the city and over the sea. Stormy seas, ferocious gales and relentless rain gave way again to a few days of sun and clouds. Our minds slowed, our hearts opened and we mended ourselves. We even found time for tennis, the girls swam (public indoor pool) and made pottery and we walked around and through Crescent city. And the Burnt Biscuit fire was declared officially out on Dec. 31st, 2002.

The Storms were all we hoped for ? dramatic, raging, windy, loud, blustery and frightening! A "working vacation" absent from the myriad distractions and interruptions of "the city". And Good Work was, indeed, accomplished. But also?long hikes along the Beach clad in Gore Tex Foul Weather Gear in wind driven, December Rain. Up to the Lighthouse to sit at a picnic table?look at the view. Pelicans and Gulls seem not to mind this wild and incredible Storm.

The perfect refuge and oasis after long days of work-related silliness. Stormy weather brought its own kind of "Wuthering Heights" atmosphere. Becalming and Beautiful. Thanks for sharing your home. We hope to return many times.

Beautiful, cozy; thanks.

Real swell. I am loving lighthouses, birds, rocks. Why, oh why, must I return to LA.

Loved the location. Loved the cozy downstairs den and fireplace. Loved the nautical themed furniture. Best memory: falling asleep to the sound of the foghorn with the dim port (red) and starboard (green) lamps on in the upstairs bedroom.

We just have three words to express; Magical! Magical! Magical! Reminded us a lot of Ireland.

S.D.: Pasadena

Each year we come here we discover something new. This wonderful house is so filled with experiences, memories and love. At the end of such a stressful year our family came back to this refuge for recharging ad new beginnings. Thank you for sharing your home and we look forward to many more weeks here in the coming years. And, holy cow: a DVD, second TV, new furnishings, too. The storms were awesome, the wind howled and the sun shined too.

The house is beautiful! The breeze is lovely. I liked the purple bathroom and the locense plates downsaris. We have really enjoyed our time here. It’s very peaceful and it helps us keep in touch with life. Thank you for sharing your house with us.

Time to go (wonderful time here). My 20 month old stood frozen when we walked out onto the deck. He stood and was listening to the sound of the ocean and foghorn. It’s something I’ll never forget. He enjoyed making the sound of the horn, too! We hope to come back — tank you for the use of your wonderful shore house.

Hi Patt, Thanks for everything. We did get some wind and rain but the house was perfect and the weather just contributed to that "Wuthering Heights" atmosphere. It was wonderful to return home and watch the ocean and the Olympics fireside. Hope to return again in the future.
Thank You, Donna

Hi, Just wanted to let you know how much I loved your beach house and what a wonderful vacation we had there. I have the picture of the lighthouse as my wallpaper on my computer, so I can see it everyday. It was the best vacation I have ever had and the first one that I did not want to come home from. We are so looking forward to returning next year.

Some of my new favorite things: the purple bathroom! The bark of the harbor seals, lighthouses, the crash of the waves as they hit the rocks, shell hunting, carved wooden bears, the moonlight stretching across the ocean, Rosie the neighbor dog, Point St. George, the sea mist on my face, the smell of burning wood from the fire mixed with the salty air, the painted lighthouse picture in the downstairs bedroom, 26 (seconds) off, 3.5 on lighthouse light, the harbor horn, the howling dogs, the crackle of a good night fire, the rescued seals at the mammal rescue, crabby cakes, pelicans, cheesecake, pebble beach drive, the Trees of Mystery, burls, a comfortable couch, sharing a cozy beachhouse with good friends, walking the jetty, the bright yellow house, the spirit of the redwood forest, a well kept beach house (good job Jan), the hosopitality of a beach home owner, a low tide, wooden beach chairs in the sun, visiting the light at the top of the lighthouse, old movies, an early morning walk on the beach, and on and on! Thanks so much for the chance to make so many great memories! We will be back!

I just wanted to let you know how much we enjoyed your beachhouse! In my opinion the view from your house is unequaled in Crescent City. The house was very, very comfortable. We enjoyed the fireplace alot, too! Altogether it was wonderful. Thank you very much! I hope to be able to rent this house again and for a longer period of time. Sincerly, Cynthia 2001

Dear Patt,
Just a short note to tell you that we loved staying at your beach house! We enjoyed everything there and were lucky with the weather. It didn't rain once!

We hiked on several trails (boy Scout Trail was our favorite), met a Redwoods National Park Ranger at 6:30 AM above Enderts Beach for tidal pool exploration, collected agates on your beach and up at Point St. George (where we even found fossils!), spent hours observing the resident harbor seals, caught Dungeness and rock crabs down at the dock and had a crab feast that night - and on and on. We found it a wonderland. Thank you for renting to us.

We left a day early so we could include Crater Lake and Newbury Volcanic National Park in our trip but it was hard to leave.

With best wishes,
Sharon and Mark H.
[And four other family members]

PS: Your personal replies to my inquiries were very helpful. Thank you again. Sharon

PPS: Jan [local custodian] was also informative and the house was very clean when we arrived.

We loved our stay in your beach house where the harbor seals greeted us each morning! Birding and tidal pool exploring here and at Endert?s Beach was great. We crabbed off Citizen?s Pier and had a superb crab dinner. Trails off Highland Hill Rd.- Boy Scout Trail and Stout Grove are among the best! The agates, shells and even fossils are there for the finding at the beach and at the wildlife sanctuary at the tip of Point St. George, & agates abound in front, here, as well. This was a memorable stay! M. & S. H. of Churchton MD, J. A. of Bridgewater NJ, & L. & M. F. of Renton, WA. 7-15-21/00

This has been one of the best vacations of my life! I?m sad to leave. Thank you very much for letting us use this beautiful home! The view was incredible! I will never forget this! M. K. age 13, Spokane, WA August '00

Thank you?thank you. A wonderful home with a remarkable view and setting. Many hours of pleasure and joy were enjoyed here. We leave with beautiful memories. The McK?s, Boise, ID

We had a great time! This was a memorable week! The beach combing, bonfires, swimming, etc! This was a wonderful beach to be at during low or high tide. At low tide climbing the rocks and seeing all the starfish, hermit crabs, snails, crabs, sea anemones, pelicans, seals and probably more! Also, finding seashells was a treat! At high tide a nice dip was nice. At night, loved to watch the stars come out and watch the lighthouse blink on and off. This house has such and ideal location! This has been a vacation full of memories that money can?t buy! Thanks for letting my B-day be so great! Thanks! God Bless! M. M. McC. Boise, ID, August '98

Let me suggest studying the Milky Way and shooting stars on a clear night from the deck. I also didn?t know that pelicans fly in flocks. Never too old to learn! Thank you for the memories ? they will be ours forever. Mr. K., Spokane, WA August '98

Have really enjoyed our time here. You have so many wondrous things and places close in. The Redwoods, The Lite plus the coast, harbor seals and other sea life. We look forward to our next trip out.
