1974-40+ BIG SALMON CAN BE TAKED WITH FLIES ON SMITH RIVER
This forty pound-plus male Chinook hit a small # 8 shrimp fly, one of the popular fly patterns that do well on the Smith River. This photo was taken in tidewater during the low flows of early fall. The angler was casting from a one-man rowboat called a "pram", commonly used by fly-fishers in these large ares, and chose to go ashore to "beach" the big fish rather than try to net it.
